VISUAL STIMULI AND INFOGRAPHICS IN PAPER 2
In Paper 2 you are expected to answer some questions based on visual stimuli such as infographics, graphs, diagrams, cartographic material and images.
Visual stimuli aim to give an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. They use striking, engaging visuals to communicate information quickly and clearly.
However, with the increase in use of visual stimuli to show information there is risk that these introduce bias. The P2 question using visual stimuli therefore encourages you to critically evaluate how data has been presented.
Below you will find an example to help you practise this important IB Geography exam skill.
Consider the following questions:
Who created this infographic?
What is its purpose? (to entertain, inform, persuade?)
What are their sources of data?
Are those sources reliable?
Has the data been presented in the most appropriate way?
How could the representation of data be improved?
